2nd Display Resolution

I've connected an LG widescreen LCD monitor to my new macbook pro, but the only resolution options I get is 1280x1024 or 800x600. How can I get it to display 1920x1080?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
